Individualised learning is a method of teaching in which content, teaching strategies and the pace of learning are based upon the abilities and interests of each learner.

We recognise that all children are different and they have preferred learning styles in different contexts. Although our standards may be similar for all students the pathway students take to achieve that may be different.

Individualised learning methods are in complete contrast to a traditional textbook driven process where children and teachers become “page-turners” as they step through page upon page of content then later prove that they understand it through a test.

All children should be equally challenged. When children need extra support, the curriculum and instruction should be adapted and modified. Equally, bright children should be extended and challenged beyond normal grade level expectations.

Children learn at different rates. They progress through material at different speeds, according to their own learning needs and abilities. For example, a student might take longer to progress through a given topic, skip topics that cover information already known, or repeat topics on which they need more help.

Every child is important and their learning program should be personalised in such a way that their learning potential is maximised in all contexts. Kingsgate International School makes sure that all children can succeed no matter what their background, interests or abilities.
